A Cry for Justice: My Name is Mic Iyke an artist, My Ordeal with a Gang of Fraudulent Money Changers in Sango Ota
On the 24th of March, 2025, I had an experience that I will never forget — one that has left me deeply disturbed and concerned for the safety of other innocent Nigerians. For some time, I had been exchanging Naira for Dollars through a Hausa man I trusted. However, on this unfortunate day, I unknowingly fell into a dangerous trap set by individuals whose sole business was deceit and intimidation.
It all began when I went, as usual, to exchange currency. Little did I know that Basiru, the son of Adamu Umoru, was involved in a deep scam operation. These individuals, under the guise of legitimate “aboki” money changers, have been scamming hardworking Nigerians of their money. Worse still, when confronted, they use threats involving police, political connections, and unknown forces to intimidate their victims into silence.
That day, I narrowly escaped with my life. I later learned that many others who had fallen victim to this gang had faced violent threats and harassment. Fearing for my safety but determined to seek justice, I reported the matter to the local money changers’ union chairman, Mr. Musa Oseni. Unfortunately, my hopes were shattered once again.
Instead of helping, Mr. Oseni appeared to be complicit. He requested that I give them a week for Basiru’s father to repay the sum owed to me — 234,580 Naira. Trusting in due process, I agreed. However, after the seven days elapsed, they pleaded for an additional month to resolve the issue. I reluctantly accepted.
Sadly, after a month, they stopped picking up my calls altogether. It became clear that there was a network of support for these fraudulent activities even among those meant to regulate them.
Today, I am using this medium to call upon all Nigerians, security agencies, and human rights organizations to take urgent action. These criminals are operating openly under the bridge at Sango Ota, Ogun State. If nothing is done, more innocent people will fall victim to their scams — or worse.
These individuals, who present themselves as honest “aboki” changers, are engaging in organized crime and terrorism against the public. I plead for justice not just for myself, but for all others who have suffered silently.
I urge the authorities to investigate thoroughly, bring the perpetrators to justice, and cleanse our communities of such dangerous elements.
