Magodo estate invasion illegal, offenders will be prosecuted – Lagos Govt

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), declared as illegal, the invasion of Magodo Phase 2 Estate in the Shangisha area of the state on Wednesday by suspected land grabbers and some policemen.

Onigbanjo said the High Court of Lagos was not aware of the development, adding that those found culpable of the invasion will be prosecuted.

Goldmyne TV and others had earlier reported that the Magodo Residents Association shut the estate gates after suspected land grabbers, led by some policemen and members of a family, invaded the community to claim possession of the property.

During the invasion, the group used red, brown and blue inks to inscribe ‘ID/795/88 Possession Taken Today 21/12/21 by Court Order, on various properties on the estate.

The incident led to a commotion on Wednesday, and disrupted economic activities in the estate and business owners were shut out.

The State Government is therefore dismayed by the action of Chief Adebayo Adeyiga (one of the Judgment Creditors) who misled the Nigeria Police in attempting execution of the Judgment notwithstanding the pending appeal against the issuance of the warrant of possession by the then Chief Judge of Lagos State on 16th March 2017.

The State Government enjoins the general public to remain calm especially Residents of Magodo Residential Area, while an investigation into the unwarranted incident is being carried out with a view to prosecuting any person found culpable.

The Lagos State Government has high regard for the rule of law and will protect the interests of all parties.
